What's that smell? Did you fart?

Yup, that's becoming a common phrase exchanged between both of us lately.  My only comment: be courteous and roll down the window. :) Ok, so we've been on the road 10 days now... we're bound to be a little stinky. Plus we have a HUGE lab hanging out in the back of our car, who's been rolling around in mud, sand dunes, and at dog kennels.  Needless to say, I'm ready for a shower, clean laundry, and a clean puppy. Vacuuming the car would be a plus. For those of you who know me, you understand what a torture this lingering aroma is for me...

On to what's been happening:

Yesterday (Sunday, July 10th) was such a beautiful day, I wish I could have wrapped it up and saved it for all those cold days we’ll face in AK. Plus, it was our 2 ½ year anniversary!  That’s so hard to believe.  Feels like we just metJ

Since Layla was staying at a dog kennel for the two days we were in Eugene, we had the whole day to do whatever we wanted. It was like having your kid at the grandparents! Haha…. Ah freedomJ We slept in, took our time getting ready, and then headed up to the University of Oregon to the famous Hayward Field track.  Jordan so badly wanted to run on this track as it is the track his idol Steve Prefontaine ran on.  I’m sad to say our luck was not the same in Oregon as it was in Yellowstone.  The track was closed for resurfacing and we couldn’t get in. Jordan was pretty disappointed, but we were still able to walk around the campus a bit, find Pre’s old dorm which is now a sports arena, and walk around the really old cemetery on campus.  It was fun finding these places after watching the Pre movie the night before.  After exploring campus we decided to find the rock that Pre hit with his car that killed him in May 1975 at age 25.  So sad.  We also found the trail that was built in his honor at a park.  It was laid with really soft mulch so it was awesome to run on.  Jordan and I ran about two miles.  It felt really good to run, really great to run with Jordan, and so satisfying to say I could run two miles without stopping! (Should I mention Jordan made me keep going just to be able to say that in our blog?)

In the afternoon we spent some time scouting out the Eugene Running Store and then we found a Nike store that had a whole museum section dedicated to Steve Prefontaine and the Bills that coached at U of O.  We spend quite a bit of time looking around, but didn’t buy anything.  We did go back to the Duck Store to look some more, and found a sticker for our Thule cargo carrier (I’ll post a picture of the collection we’ve started). We ate dinner at this really amazing seafood restaurant and went to see the new Tom Hanks/Julia Roberts movie, Larry Crowne.  Super cute movie for those of you interestedJ

This morning we picked up Layla and headed up to Beaverton, OR, about two hours north of Eugene to find the Nike Headquarters.  Can you tell we have an avid runner in our family? Jordan is there right now fulfilling an 11-year-long dream to run on the Nike track that is surrounded by woods.  Where am I you ask? Jordan thought it best to leave his girls in the parking lot of a Chinese restaurant and Vietnamese nail salon so he could go running.

Later on today...

We just arrived in Seattle!  Jordan's wonderful mom found us this GREAT room at the Residence Inn here... a HUGE step up from the Super 8! It's got two floors, two bathrooms, and even a special bed for Layla! Ok, so maybe it's just one of those that pulls down from the wall, but we'll let her have it for the night. She's endured a lot these past 10 days.  We're going to clean up in a minute (get rid of that smell) and head over to the Space Needle for dinner! I'll probably post pics of that on tomorrow's post, but for now, enjoy these!

One SAD runner.

Re-enacting the scene from the movie where Pre runs through the cemetery.

Pre's rock where he crashed.

Pre's trail... pre-run.

Love this place! Everywhere you go there's a tribute to Pre!

This one's for my mom and dad: The Green Mountains exist on the west coast, too!
On the way to Mt. St. Helens.... looks scary.

REALLY tired of driving on mountain roads, but it's so beautiful!

Sadly, it was a cloudy day, so this is only the base of St. Helens, but if the base is this big, imagine what the rest of it looks like.

Isn't she beautiful? Not sure, but that might be a booger hanging from her nose. Isn't she so our dog?
